Jizzakh State Pedagogical Institute named after Abdulla Kodiriy is the first higher educational institution in Jizzakh Region. It was organized in 1974 and in 1989 it was named after Abdulla Kodiriy – one of the great Uzbek writes.

During the period of its work the Institute has trained qualified teachers and Scientific Cadres for the educational needs of the Jizzakh and other regions of the Republic. Among the graduates of the Institute there are many scholars, honoured teachers and leaders of the Educational and other Institutions of the Region.

In the year of the establishment of the Institute there were only two faculties: Faulty of the Uzbek Language and Literature and Faculty of Mathematics with the staff of only 29 lecturers and instructors and 425 students. At present there are 8 faculties – Uzbek Language and Literature, Foreign Languages, History and the Law, Methodology of Primary Education, Chemistry and Biology, Physics and Mathematics, Vocational Education, Physical Training and Physical Culture. There are also 4 departments – Music, Pedagogy and Psychology, Kazakh Language and Literature, Geography and Extra Mural Department. The Institute is multinational and at present there are 5136 students representing 27 nationalities. The students are trained in 17 specialties with bachelor degree, 16 students – masters degree in 5 specialties.

In the recent period of time there have been many changes in the Institute; now it is equipped with modern study devices, audio-visual aids, new laboratories, study rooms, lecture halls. The main thing is that the teaching staff now has many qualified lecturers and instructors . the ties of the Institute strengthened with higher

institutions and scientific centers of Moscow, Kiev, Saint Petersburg, Novosibirsk,

Yekaterinburg, Minsk and other cities.

Now the Institute has a problem – oriented laboratory conducting a research on fundamental problems of in-between resonance state resulted from interaction of high energy nuclei granted by the Scientific and Technology Center under the Government of Uzbekistan (The scientific head of the project is Prof. R. Bekmirzayev, Doctor of Science ( Physics and Mathematics).

Now the Institute has 42 chairs (departments), The Scientific and Methodological Center ( Education Communication and Multimedia), The Study-Methodological Center, The Language Center (English, Russian, French, German, Japanese, Arabic Languages), The Study-Production Center, The Vocational Center, 4 study laboratories, 25 specialized classes, 10 computerized modern classes, 2 lingophone rooms, 3 study buildings, a hostel accommodating 400 students, more than 50 scientific circles, 2 stadiums, 2 volleyball, 2 basketball, 2 handball, 2 mini-soccer playgrounds, a swimming-pool, 2 libraries, the house of culturing 650 places, 4 lecture halls, A 50-seat Health Center, The Bobur Sport-Health Resort, 5 dining facilities (a canteen with 150 seats, 3 bars serving 80 people, a communal service facility comprising a photographer’s saloon, a shoemaker’s, 2 barber’s room.

Teaching staff of the Institute now consists of 328 lecturers and instructors, 14 of them doctors of sciences and professors, 122 – candidates of sciences, and assistant – professors. During the last 3 years 6 doctorate dissertations were defended and 15 staff members became candidates of sciences
